Un-fair Payment

The great thing about American is that it is a country where you can reach for the stars and strive to accomplish anything if you are willing to work hard at it. American farmers have shown throughout the years that they are hard working people trying to keep the American dream alive. Its hard for some farmers to do so when government is getting in the way. I believe that government does not make commodity program payments to the right people. After reading the article "Farm Subsidies in California:Skewed Priorities and Gross Inequities" by Kari Hamerschlag, it showed how government is not paying the right people.
An example of this is found in the information the EWG farm Subsidies database discovered. They stated that only 10% of California's farmers receive direct subsidies. The money that is suppose to be given out to all farmers in California actually only are given to five subsidized commodities; cotton, rice, wheat, livestock, and corn. Within those five subsidized commodities only the big named corporations will receive money. This is because in most cases government has a big say within these commodities. What about all the other commodities, like fruit, that play a big role in our economy. What about the family farmers that have businesses of there own? This is one of many examples of how commodity program payments do not always go to the right people.
